The Lake District | A short trip along the English lakes on a gray day
Liverpool was once an important port city in England, and walking around the city and near the harbor, you can feel its unique character, which is different from that of typical inland cities. It has a port, museums, historical buildings, and a strong music culture. In particular, Liverpool is the birthplace of The Beatles, so the whole city has a retro, free, and artistic atmosphere.
If you are studying in the UK, or are looking to plan a short trip to a city in Northern England, Liverpool is a great place to spend a day.

The area around the University of Leeds has a strong student city atmosphere.
Since the main purpose of this trip was to visit friends, we initially focused our activities around the University of Leeds. This area has many students, cafes, and small shops, so walking around isn't too much of a sightseeing experience; rather, it feels more like observing the daily lives of local students.
Snack Bar : Tasting Taiwanese Bento in the UK
What impressed me most during my trip to Leeds was a small canteen near the University of Leeds that my friend took us to. The food reminded me of braised pork rice bento boxes from Taiwan, which included rice, meat, side dishes, and could even be paired with a bubble tea set. For someone studying in the UK, this taste really evoked a sense of familiarity.
Grain Market: Small shops and a sense of everyday life in an indoor market
After lunch, we went to Corn Exchange Grain Market. The place is very unique both inside and out, especially the circular space, high ceilings, and concentric circles of small shops. Walking inside gives you the feeling of a renovated old British building. There are many small shops to browse; they're not large chain stores, but rather shops with personality, a handmade feel, or an independent brand atmosphere. Even if you don't particularly want to buy anything, it's a great place to stroll around, take photos, and experience Leeds' more artsy and slow-paced side.
Leeds Downtown: Arcades, Streets, and Fun Shops
Leeds city centre is actually quite nice to stroll around in. There are many shops on the streets, and it's not too complicated to walk around. In addition to the main shopping street, I think the rooftop and arcade-style shopping streets are also very beautiful. The white buildings, blue roofs and retro signs together have a very British city feel.
Urban Outfitters: Vinyl Records, Apparel, and Student Discounts
On Leeds Street, we also came across a chain of Urban Outfitters. In addition to clothes and household items, they also have a lot of vinyl records to look at, and students get a 10% discount, so if you happen to see a vinyl record, clothes, or small item that you like, it's a bit more cost-effective considering the price level in the UK.
